Sidewalks: Repair or Replace?
Properly done, a sidewalk patch can last for decades and it's definitely more cost effective than replacing the entire slab but there are some things that need to be considered.
How severe is the damage? If the sidewalk is full of pits and broken edges, then the surface of the concrete has most likely been weakened and will continue to degrade. Most likely patches won't last in this situation.
Also, being newer, the patch will be lighter than the existing concrete. After a few years and some weathering it will fade in. Another option is to stain the concrete but this will need to be done every few years or so.
Now, if you've called around looking for contractors to repair your sidewalk, you've probably run into a roadblock. Except for Ontario Concrete Repair & Restoration, there really isn't too many contractors out there willing to do a patch because of the time it takes to prep and pour, the cost of labor just isn't cost effective for most.
